Bike Course

The present 90km Mercure Capricorn Resort bike leg comprises five laps – out and back from Mercure Capricorn Resort to Yeppoon (opposite the seaward side caravan park) and return.

Riders head out of the Resort some 5kms to the highway and then turn south on spectacular coastline multi-lane roads towards Yeppoon. The ride will be held entirely on the ‘sea’ side of the road with the traffic contra flowing in the inland lanes.

A second turnaround within the Mercure Capricorn Resort will be narrowed to allow lap checkers to count your laps for accuracy. A timing mat may be used on this point for splits and additional lap checks.

The Bike course is shaped in a big ‘L’ with a consistent but granular road surface. The ride is flat. Riders will be under instruction from SES and police personnel; their instructions will form part of the race rules.

Approximately 30% of the bike course is within the Resort, 70% is on closed roads or closed lanes.

This is a non-drafting race and Triathlon Australia and Triathlon QLD Technical Officials will be on course to police all regulations. It is, however, up to the individual racing to know the course and the rules and adhere to them. Only the individual rider can stop drafting by not doing it!

Note: The current bike course is under review. X-Tri is working with local authorities with a view to reducing the number of laps on the bike course. More information will be published as available.
