Swim Course

The 1.9km straight line Rocket Science Sports ocean swim is swum in the sheltered ocean waters off the beach at Mercure Capricorn Resort Yeppoon. Average Water temperature is: 22 – 23°C – at this temperature wetsuits remain optional.

Should the temperature fall well below the norm, due to freak conditions, it is possible the swim could be shortened. Wet suits and an additional cap/s may be advisable in such conditions. If the water warms above 23C wetsuits will not be allowed.

Highly experienced SLSA Paddlers and rubber rescue boats (IRBs) will be on the course at all times.

Competitors will be walked up the beach to a start point approximately 1.7kms from the swim finish line and the course will be laid for a 100m swim out from the beach, then a turn left to swim 1.7km down the beach to the resort (current assisted!) and then turn left again 100m to the finish point at Mercure Capricorn Resort Yeppoon.

The course will be marked by inflatable buoys.

The swim course closes 1 hour 15 minutes after each official wave start.
